What to Do in Nájera

As well as the Monastery Santa María la Real, Nájera offers many other interesting places for tourists to visit.

In the old town you will find the Archeology and History Museum. The building, which was built in the 17th century and was the abbot’s former house and apothecary, nowadays houses archeological objects from Najerilla Valley from Prehistory to Modern Ages.

Some steps far from the museum, you can find the Alcázar, the ruins of an old fortress and palace. Of Muslim origin and located in the mountain, in your visit you will discover Nájera’s history and enjoy the incredible views of Nájera and surroundings.

In a-minute walk from Pensión San Lorenzo, there is another of Nájera’s most important monuments, the Church of the Holy Cross. Founded in 1052, its neoclassic altarpiece and several carvings and paintings will never fail to move you. Furthermore, you will have excellent views to the church from many of our rooms.

If you cross the river you will find St Helen’s Convent, located in the middle of Camino de Santiago. Despite being an enclosed convent where nuns live, the church is opened to visitors. There, you will gaze at the main altarpiece and Saint Helen’s image.

Lastly, the Najerilla river bank and the promenade, which make Nájera the perfect place to enjoy nature, also deserve special attention. It’s worth having a walk and watch the trouts in the river, the trees in the Pedagogical Forest or sitting on a bench to enjoy the landscape.

July is one of the most crowded months in Nájera and it due to Nájera Kingdom performances.
